Field Notes · Vol. 01
Real weddings.
Real disasters.
These are the kinds of disasters that actually happen on wedding days. Documented, repeated, and exactly what I plan against.
- 01The marriage license is left at home.
- 02The rings are in a hotel room across town.
- 03The officiant gets stuck in traffic.
- 04The hairstylist no-shows.
- 05Hair runs an hour long and the first look collapses.
- 06The dress rips twenty minutes before walking.
- 07The bustle takes 22 minutes and dinner starts without you.
- 08The florist swaps your peonies for carnations.
- 09The boutonnières are missing from the florist's box.
- 10The DJ plays the wrong first-dance song.
- 11The caterer ghosts on the wedding morning.
- 12The caterer brings the wrong dietary cards to an allergy table.
- 13The wrong cake is delivered, with another couple's names on it.
- 14The cake is gorgeous and there is no knife.
- 15The shuttle leaves without half the guest list.
- 16The bus driver doesn't have the gate code.
- 17The rental company drops everything at the wrong address.
- 18The venue's only outlet for the band is behind a locked door.
- 19Two guests are seated next to their ex.
- 20Rain you swore wouldn't come, with no tent rented.
So what actually prevents this?
A run-of-show tight enough that any vendor can step in cold. A short list of backup vendors who pick up on Sundays. And someone calm enough to make the call at 5:47am when the caterer goes dark. That's the job. That's me.
